G20 Dinner Invite Sparks Speculations, Congress Slams BJP
Congress slams government over G20 dinner invite in name of ‘President of Bharat’. Normally, dinner invites are sent in name of ‘President of India’. The unusual dinner invite has sparked speculations that the govt may remove the word ‘India’ from Constitution. A cryptic tweet by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also added to the drama. Sarma put out a tweet saying ‘REPUBLIC OF BHARAT’ - happy and proud that our civilisation is marching ahead boldly towards AMRIT KAAL. Sources say Narendra Modi govt may bring some bills in the upcoming Special session of Parliament to remove ‘India’ word from Constitution.
The G20 Summit is being held in the national capital from September 9 to 10 under India's presidency and several heads of state from across the world, including US President Joe Biden, are attending the event.
From ‘India’ to ‘Bharat’? Opposition's charge on Presidential invite for G20 dinner
The opposition parties on Tuesday alleged that the Rashtrapati Bhavan had sent out an invite for a G20 dinner, with the invite reading ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the ‘President of India.' The Congress' Jairam Ramesh stated sarcastically that the Article 1 of the Constitution must now be changed to ‘Bharat, that was India.’
